An Answer Seventeen Years in The Making
On the Universal Negro Improvement Association (U.N.I.A.) website in 1998 was written:
Who could have known August 13, 2020 would occur under the presently auspicious circumstances? So much has changed since 1998. As of this moment melanin is worth over $395 a gram more than gold. That makes melanin worth more than gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, and coltan combined. The Afro, official currency of the United States of Africa is worth over $2. The Red Black and Green flag of the sovereign United States of Africa is rapidly approaching its centennial. Those conditions can easily be considered to constitute the proverbial “Whirlwind” where Marcus Garvey told us to look for him.
Let us excite and expand human awareness with a U.N.I.A. revived with 12 million card carrying members by August 1, 2020. The 12 million provides the organization with $408 million in dues. Consolidating our energy prepares us for the 100th anniversary of the First International Convention of the U.N.I.A. in August 2020. Calling the gathering “The Melanin Convergence” sets the tone for everything happening during August 2020. Out of the events we produce “The Ubuntu Declaration.” August 13th as #RBG100 and World Melanin Day positions us to we flood the internet and social media with well-being through the #RBG100, #AR2020 and #WMD2020 hashtags.
The event introduced in the prologue to the book “Melanin Is Worth More Than Gold” may be considered an epiphany. It has that air mainly because of actor and comedian Richard Pryor, believe it or not. He spoke of an experience in Kenya causing him to cease using the word starting with “N” and rhyming with bigger despite having grown wealthy using the term. He referred to his experience as an epiphany, although fellow actor and comedian Paul Mooney says it was not. Mooney’s reason? Pryor continued engaging in unsavory activity after his trip to Kenya.
May 2, 2002, I had an experience something like Pryor’s in Addis Ababa at the Hotel Ghion. I refer to it as “One bright day.” It took place nearly nine months after the fateful events in Washington, New York and Pennsylvania during September 2001. I was in Addis that day because, my trip back to the United States from Nigeria was interrupted mid-transit.
While attempting to board the connecting flight to the US from Ethiopia, an obstacle manifested. I was prevented from boarding the flight to the United States of America due to the lamination on my passport’s identification page having detached. Due to new regulations, any airline allowing passengers to enter the USA with inadequate identification paperwork would be fined $35,000 or so, according to the boarding agent.
It was necessary to go to the US Embassy in Addis the next day and have the passport validated. Seeing as it was a Sunday the return to the US would not be until the following Sunday. Ethiopian Airlines only had one weekly flight to the US at that time. That night Ethiopian Airlines put me up in a hotel. The next day I went to the US Embassy where, of course, the passport was authenticated.
Afterwards, I transferred to a different hotel. Any hotel I chose was available at ET’s (Ethiopian Airlines) expense. The most desirable to me was the Hotel Ghion.
Named after one of the three rivers in the Biblical Garden of Eden, which is also the name of a river in Ethiopia, the hotel was built by Haile Selassie. Just south of his palace, the hotel seems like a far-off place, though it is almost hidden from nearby Meskel Square.
Entering the hotel’s gates leaves the impression we have somehow made a wrong turn and entered a lush countryside. The rolling landscape, nestled in the central part of the city seems like a retreat, surrounded by the very place from which we seek refuge.
Given a bungalow in the rear of the building was comforting. Ethiopian Airlines is unique, as far as I know, in that it provides an amenity which is not loudly proclaimed, though gratefully appreciated. Whenever a transit passenger has to layover for three- or four-hours ET will put them up in a hotel at the airline’s expense. Having been there before, the resort made a great impression. This time around the bungalow was much larger than previously.
Since the stay had not been planned, I had nothing to do but wait to board the flight back to the USA. Having seen the tourist sites previous days, things now became boring. After rising, bathing in the claw-footed bathtub, and consuming the complimentary breakfast there was nothing else to do but return to the bungalow. There I wondered, “what next?”
The bungalow was a suite. Entering the door, we are met with a sitting room with fireplace, sofa, matching chair and large screen television. Behind the television opened a pair of windows revealing a cultivation of flowers. Their fragrance wafted into the room with every breeze. Diagonally opposite the entrance was a door to a guest bathroom. To the left of the entrance was the bedroom. In it is found the large king-sized bed in a more than adequate bedroom with adjoining private bathroom.
This is the setting when the urge struck to just watch some television. Flipping the channels was little more than a distraction from how dull the layover had become.
The point where the flipping stopped seems, even now, insignificant. The Voice of America was interviewing an African American man named Malik Chaka. At the time he was a Congressional Assistant for a Congressman whose name we do not recall. Mr. Chaka was being interviewed on economic opportunities in Africa for African-Americans.
Retrieving a notebook and pen, I eagerly prepared to document whatever information Mr. Chaka provided. After writing the date May 2, 2002 and the place Ethiopia what happened next seems a blur. All I know for certain is after the date, and place what was written had nothing to do with economic opportunities for African Americans in Africa. I heard absolutely nothing Mr. Chaka said that day. The following is, for the most part, verbatim as written on the page. When it was originally written names were used for some characters. The names have been changed to prevent confusion as to what transpired. The names were only for convenience as we only saw people in a place doing things.
Seventeen years ago, when what follows was first documented, the question repeatedly came to mind “what was that?” From time to time returning to the notebook to review what was written with amazement was a treat. Questions were spawned such as: “Did I really write this?” “Why are these things happening?” “Now what am I supposed to do?” The last question seems to have as its answer: “animate it.” Ideally, I’d be somewhere creating 3D animated movies based on traditional African stories right now.
As things stand, all the foregoing chapters of this book appear to have been in answer to the question, “what caused this to happen?” We feel as though what takes place on the day envisioned below occurred so all the rest of this book could be written. Those chapters are preparation for readers to see this story as inevitable as water being wet, fire being hot, and the sun rising in the east.
It was never intended to present this story in this format. While working a job that paid remuneration that could not have paid our taxes on work done previously at one time, all the preceding chapters and what follows took on lives of their own. They merged, mixed, blended and made each other comprehension and purpose. Over time it became clear the following took place in less than eight to ten hours on a single day. The events occur simply because people gradually changed the way they think. That caused a different form of behavior to manifest leading to a new world.
August 13, 2020 could be “One Bright Day.” “One Bright Day” could happen before then. It could happen any time after that date. It could happen at this moment.

A car drives past people on Agbani Road in Enugu, Nigeria.
The car turns right into a side street.
The driver gets out.
A boy selling garden eggs approaches the driver hoping to make a sale.
The driver looks at the tray of garden eggs, picking three out.
The boy selling garden eggs watches as the driver takes out a bill from his pocket.
Driver writes “One God, One Aim, One Destiny” on a bill with Garvey’s picture on it.
He hands the bill to the little boy.
Sun shines on the bill in the hand of the little boy.
The driver walks away with his purchase.
The boy stuffs the bill in his pocket.
His old, dirty, ragged clothes become new. He is clean with a haircut.
The little boy reaches into his new pants pocket for the Garvey Bill.
He pulls out not a single bill, but a bundle of Garvey Bills. First from one pocket and then from the other.
With two bundles in one arm he reaches in and pulls out a third.
He goes to people on the street handing them money.
Their clothes & appearance brightens up.
A boy is given one of the G Bills…
The boy’s appearance changes, and he runs home to tell his brother (?)
The boy runs. He sees another boy and stops.
The boy who received the Garvey bill waves it over the other boy’s gray sightless eyes.
The iris of the sightless boy’s eyes changes and become a deep brown color. He blinks.
The boy’s sight is restored. He jumps up and down. Chineke!!!! I can see!!! I can see!!!
It’s a miracle!!! I can see!!!
With his sight miraculously restored he runs down the street and bumps into a woman carrying bags of groceries.
She drops her bag.
Garvey bill bundles fly up in the air.
The pair are on the ground. Her bag has spilled out. Garvey bill bundles are on the ground.
The boy whose sight has been restored helps the woman pick up her bag. He puts bundles of Garvey bills into her bag.
The woman looks on in amazement as the boy runs off. She turns and walks in the other direction.
She walks past sign reading “Emmanuel Camp.”
She puts down her bag and kneels to pray at the feet of a statue of the Black Madonna and child.
She sees a little boy looking frightened and lying on a bench in a fetal position.
Several Garvey bills are on top of her bags.
She reaches out to hand the boy one of the G-Bill bundles.
He comes out of his fetal position…his clothes change…his expression brightens up…happily he dances away.
Emene boy in dilapidated housing.
The little boy goes to a house and tells what happened to him.
One of the people gestures to Emene Boy that he is hungry.
Emene boy goes to a market stall selling baskets nearby.
Emene Boy grabs a basket and gives the vendor a G Bill.
The vendor looks at the bill incredulously.
Emene boy begins pulling fish with G-bills in their mouths out of the basket.
Emene boy pulls yams with G-bills stuck in their eyes out of the basket.
He pulls out corn from the basket with G-bills for husks.
He pulls out loaves of bread with g-bills as labels.
Emene boy hands all these to his friends as people look on in amazement.
Emene boy hands a little girl a loaf of bread, a yam, fish and some ears of corn.
She turns and walks away.
At the girl’s house.
The girl reaches her house and enters.
She shows her sister the bread, corn, yams and fish.
Her sister jumps for joy and starts dancing.
Suddenly she stops dancing.
She looks over at her mother lying on a bed in another room.
Their mother is very sick.
Her expression changes to sadness again.
She enters the room to show their mother what the younger girl brought home.
Their mother looks at the food.
Their mother looks at several empty pill bottles.
A beam of sunlight shines on the pill bottles.
The pills now have one pill each in them. Their labels are G-bills.
Mother picks up the pills. She looks at them.
She takes one each.
Mother becomes invigorated.
Her clothes are sparkling clean.
Mother looks at the renewed bedroom.
She gets out of bed.
In the kitchen.
Mother enters the kitchen. Baskets of corn with G-bill husks, yams with G-bills coming out of the eyes. and bread with G-Bill labels are on trays on the table. Fish are in a basin with G-bills in their mouths.
The older brother is tired, sad and dirty as he walks to the house.
The two sisters surprise him when they open the door. They take his hands as he walks in.
He looks around in amazement at how neat, clean and new everything is.
The sisters walk their brother to a seat where a side stool waits.
Mother brings a bowl of yam porridge.
The sisters in turn bring ears of corn, pears, a pitcher of fresh water, fish, and a plate of sliced bread piled high.
A covered tray is placed on a second side stool.
Mother uncovers the tray to reveal bundles of G-Bills.
The young man picks up one of the bundles.
He is transformed. His dirty clothes are now clean. He is refreshed.

It is raining in the north of Nigeria. But this rain is different. Water runs down the streets. The lowlands are filling with water.

He pulls into a filling station. Stops, exits the car and puts the nozzle into the tank of the car.
He removes the nozzle from the tank.
The W3 has become a W7 luxury.
The back of the W7 is filled with bags overflowing with Gold, Diamonds and bundles of G-Bills.
He pays for his fuel with a G-Bill.
The attendant brightens up. Her uniform is clean, neat and bright.
The formerly drab station is now bright and sparkling. The W7 is at the pump.
The attendant looks up to see a line of WM3s, WM7s, WM5s, & WM9s waiting for fuel.
The station transforms and 8 more pumps spring from the ground.
Attendants are rapidly and orderly servicing each customer in order.
A special W12 Bouillon truck pulls into the station.
Guards load the van with bags bulging with G-Bills.
The truck speeds off.

The clothes on people they pass also become neat, fresh, clean and African.

Return to the dark cloud over Mt. Tabesti as it flies towards KMT restoring the Songhai Forest in its wake.

The terrain becomes lush and green as the dark cloud passes overhead.
A canal washes over its banks nearby, with Heru Em Ahket in the background.
Water from the canal washes sand away near Heru Em Ahket to reveal a tunnel.
Water flows into the tunnel along a maze-like passage.
The water reaches a shaft.
The rising water lifts a platform into the shaft.
The platform rises and contacts the bottom of a rod in the shaft.
The rod is the bottom of a shepherd’s crook. The crook rises then turns a flail/flyswatter on the wall. An electric arc pulses through the room. Several oil lamps become lit. A Black man stands atop a DJED pillar holding an Ankh forward in his right hand.
The electrical charge that pulsed forth lighting the lamps continues to pulse forth from the walls.
The Dark Cloud has begun hovering over the Pyramid of Khufu.
Inside Ankhman blinks his eyes.
The Ankhman leaps down from the Djed.
Ankhman pulls the crook from the floor, the flail/flyswatter from the wall and sits upon his throne. He crosses his right arm over his left. A woman is seated in a throne beside him.
Their thrones begin descending on a platform as the water in the shaft is dispersed from their weight on the thrones.
The water overflows into a drain.
Ankhman presses his ankh into the wall as they descend.
A door opens before them.
The platform rolls forward into an ornately decorated chamber.
A stone cylinder is in the center of the chamber.
Ankhman steps onto the cylinder. The woman stands beside him and they hold hands then look into each other’s eyes.
An Ankh glows on Ankhman’s forehead.
The woman shouts “Mchakato wa Uponyaji!!!” A glowing beam emits from Ankhman’s forehead in the shape of an ankh onto the wall.

The wall slides up.
A double helix emits from the ankh on his forehead through the opening in the wall onto Heru Em Ahket.

Heru Em Ahket blinks and looks around as if aroused from a deep sleep.
HEA looks back over his shoulder at the couple and lets out a sonic boom of a roar.
HEA flicks his tail.
HEA tosses his dreadlocks to and fro.
HEA leaps up.
HEA turns and runs toward the couple.

A snake of fantastically enormous size appears ready to strike.
In one swift move HEA leaps forward and slices off the head of the snake with her sharp claws.

The Granary shudders pulsates and shimmers before it spews forth an Ankh which leaves a double helix in its wake.

You are to treat him with all the consideration you would show me, and you should well expect him to reciprocate. This letter is to convey to you that the spirit of our empire has been revitalized. We are working to bring the truth back to our people like khepera. We are resuming the history of our people as if the destruction of our empire never occurred. Provide Kemetu with your report quickly. He has numerous other destinations to reach. Time is of the essence.

One Bright Day — The Triggering
Several years of wondering “What caused this?” regarding the scenario above came an answer. “One Bright Day” was triggered by someone on television in Africa. They discussed melanin being worth more than gold, the Afro being worth over $2, as well as the Red, Black and Green flag reaching its 100th anniversary on August 13. Somehow, the action was taken to create the Afro. The rest is OURstory.
That means we trigger “One Bright Day.” That will be the day we revive the U.N.I.A. with twelve million new card-carrying members. From there we open a convention of the U.N.I.A. with delegates from all over the world emulating the 1920 convention on August first. The delegates represent African cultural groups including the diaspora. August 13, 2020 we issue the Declaration of UBUNTU.
The Ubuntu Declaration
One bright day positioned us to envision a new set of circumstances regarding the human drama. Seeing as it has been one hundred years since the Declaration of Rights of the Negro People of the World was drafted and signed on August 13, 1920, we see fit to draft and present the Ubuntu Declaration in keeping with the expectation of One Bright Day to happen.
We assess what has been achieved since the 1920 Declaration of Rights, how far we have come and what we have learned.
Special emphasis must be made on preventing agent provocateurs from disruptive behavior. The proceedings of the first monthlong plebiscite had to be closed to the public because of their interference.
James Wormley Jones was the prototype of the people we must keep close yet minimize their disruptive behavior.
Proposed for part of The Declaration of Ubuntu are the following:
· Melanin Is Worth over $395 a gram more than gold. It is the chemical which gives our hair, skin and eyes their appearance.
· We reiterate the Red, Black, and Green to be the colors of all Kemetic people at home and abroad.
· We proclaim the Red, Black, and Green has begun its second century as the flag of all African people as of August 13, 1920.
· We declare KMT the name of the continent formerly known as Africa. Africa is the name from the Latin language for a Roman colony on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. KMT is from the Ancient Kemetic Language for the oldest place ever known. KMT existed before Rome. An alien name for the mother continent is unacceptable and an impediment to progress.
· The name for the government of KMT is the United States of KMT.
· We declare The KMT the official currency of the United States of KMT. It is worth at least 2 1/2 times the dollar based on current valuations.
· We declare Metu Neter the script in which we write. The ancient Kemetic language is to be the lingua franca of KMT replacing colonial languages. Metu Neter is used to communicate in all languages.
· We declare the Ubuntu paradigm where each is cared for according to their needs. Avoidable suffering ended.
· We declare a guaranteed annual income for all people of African ancestry.
· We declare the end of poverty. This planet has enough resources for all of us to have our basic needs met.
· We declare the end of homelessness. Earth is our home and KMT (formerly known as Africa) is our birthplace. Everyone deserves a home who wants one.
· We declare black and dark to be as peaceful, beautiful, and serene as any other part of the natural order.
· We declare the Berlin conference barriers erased. They no longer exist between Kemetu at home on the continent formerly known as Africa and abroad in the diaspora.
The foregoing is merely a proposed starting point for the Ubuntu Declaration. Additions and discussion surrounding the Ubuntu Declaration are welcomed and encouraged.
Towards A True Melanin Theory
Encompassed within the events of One Bright Day is an underlying social and economic philosophy. Ubuntu, Kiamsha, and Sankofa among others inform different aspects of the philosophy. Melanin Theory as a concept came to public awareness primarily due to the efforts of Wikipedia editors. Before then, the phrase Melanin Theory referred to general hypotheses regarding melanin and its effect as it relates to humans. It seems the Wikipedia article is an effort to define reality in a manner intending to prevent the rise of a natural, organic way of life to benefit Melanin people based on quantifiable empirical phenomena.
Modern ideas of a “Melanin Theory” began with Chemist James Woodford of Atlanta. Woodford, a self-employed consultant and expert witness, submitted an affidavit in a 1986 Cleveland, Ohio court case. Black and Hispanic cadets at the police academy tested positive for THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, the active ingredient in Marijuana. They did so because of higher levels of melanin, according to Woodford’s testimony. He maintained melanin in the urine of the cadets was responsible for a false positive result.
Before the advent of Woodford, the phrase “Melanin Theory” described the work of filmmaker Robert Carl Cohen in 1955 and 1958. “The Color of Man” is the title of Cohen’s graduate student production. In both references to the work we are informed it is a ten minute visualization of “the melanin theory of skin color differences.” Later, a book based on the video was published under the same title expanding the concept.
An even earlier use of the phrase “Melanin Theory” occurred in response to questions regarding to graying hair. Logan Clendening, M.D. wrote an article appearing in the Washington Post during 1942. Responding to letters received by him regarding hair turning gray he described several theories. His descriptions of the cause of gray hair were all considered to come under the heading of “Melanin Theory.”
Reading the Wikipedia article gives the impression melanin theory is limited to “pseudoscientific Afrocentricity.” It makes no mention of James Woodford or any other usage of “melanin theory” at all.
Google scholar only shows 58 results for “melanin theory,” the majority of which refer to the Wikipedia article. According to that piece, notable proponents of melanin theory are Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, Dr. Leonard Jeffries, and Dr. Na’im Akbar yet in google scholar there are no articles in the results for “melanin theory” by ANY Afrocentrists. How can they be proponents of a theory which seems to have originated from some other source?
The only reference to even mention “Melanin Theory” in the Wikipedia article is Bernardo Ortiz de Montellano’s “Melanin, Afrocentricity, and pseudoscience.” The one time he uses the phrase is in reference to Frank K. Barr.
Thereby, we can state, based on the preceding citations, “Melanin Theory” covers a wide range of ideas regarding melanin. The Wikipedia article seems to have an agenda in narrowing down the scope of “Melanin Theory” to ideas from Melanin people who ideas beyond the scope of the consensus view of melanin.
Efforts to answer questions of “empirical, conceptual or practical” questions result in theories. Nowhere in the Wikipedia article on Melanin Theory are any of the people cited as being proponents of the “theory” quoted as making statements intending to produce a theory. All the sources cited in the article are secondary, not primary, sources. Furthermore, the history of the phrase is never traced as presented herein. Lastly, no one has conducted a study on research regarding melanin to solve a problem with their “theory.” The only article that comes close to such a result is Barr’s MELANIN: THE ORGANIZING MOLECULE. In it, Barr sets out to present evidence supporting the hypothesis melanin has significant physiological and psychological functionality. Though a few of the alleged proponents of “melanin theory” reference Barr, they do so for the hypothesis he presents.
Were a true Melanin Theory to exist what question would it solve? To answer that, we would have to investigate what it takes to create a theory. According to Bernard Cohen features of theoretical problems include:

· The problem has boundaries.
· The problem is highly selective.
· The problem has an embedded decision tree.
A true “Melanin Theory” could set out to solve the problem of the Melanin Challenged Inferiority Complex. If we were to develop such a theory, it would undoubtably exceed the scale of the present work. The lack of evidence presented to document any effort to develop a true theory on the part of the claimed proponents of the Wikipedia article on Melanin Theory indicates no such theory exists. That does not prevent its development.

There is not now an institute explicitly focused on researching melanin, although it is being subjected to intense scientific scrutiny. We propose the development of an establishment to serve as the center of intellectual endeavors regarding melanin. The current state of research regarding melanin lacks focus. Additionally, much effort is put into spreading misinformation and disinformation as it pertains to melanin. A great deal of the research at present defy a comprehensive standards-based approach. Reviewing scholarly articles involving melanin reveals a considerable measure of them express concepts regarding melanin subjectively. The Institute for Melanin Research works to ensure dissemination of objective, open, and honest information regarding melanin.

The Melanin Deniers’ activities indicate the importance of insuring we know ourselves and melanin. Knowing ourselves is essential to revival of our empire under the sovereign flag of the Red, Black, and Green. Additionally, the Melanin Theory Journal supports efforts of Melanin people to know ourselves globally, from the melanin perspective.
As the foremost research and development facility pertaining to melanin, one project of the Institute is publication of The Melanin Theory Journal. Visitors receive an expanded view of how melanin has influenced world history and the role it continues to play at present in life on this planet. Immersive activities enable visitors to experience unique aspects of melanogenesis, explore scientific research activities and become informed of melanin’s attributes. Exhibits augment pre-existing concepts of experience through artifacts around the globe covering the history of melanin.
Melanin Songs on TIDAL
People are producing songs involving melanin at an incredible pace. It appears there is a natural occurrence in the grand cosmic order of things to undo the spiritual, emotional and psychological effects to people of melanin by the over 600 “coon” songs of the late 19th and early 20th century. Melanin Is worth More Than Gold: The Movie
As the process of compiling this volume proceeded, it became clear the next logical step after publication is the production of a documentary. Having satisfied the mission, we have been inspired to fulfill, regarding melanin being worth more than gold, this new challenge presented itself. Using this book as a model and a guide we intend to produce the documentary A.S.A.P.
Looking at all that has transpired to the present regarding melanin being worth more than gold, producing a documentary involving the events up to the present is only natural. Presenting this content in a format aimed at reaching a wider audience while communicating the message in the span of one-hundred and twenty minutes must necessarily be accomplished.
This allows us to share our message with an audience who might not ordinarily interact with this knowledge in its present form. We look forward to putting in the effort to create more content through which we “engage, entertain, and educate.”
