The Red, Black and Green flag symbolizes the Sovereign United States of Africa. The concept of the United States of Africa was envisioned by Marcus Garvey in a poem entitled “Hail! United States of Africa.” The Red, Black and Green has been the flag of Africans, at home and abroad, for over 100 years now.
In 1973 Roy Ayers released an album entitled Red Black and Green. The lyrics to the title track are below.
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
Red, Black and Green
Yeah Yeah yeah
Red is for the eastern sun
towards a people just begun
Red is for the blood we shed
Red is for our million fed
Red is for our liberation
fightin for our own black nation
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
Black is for our motherland
Black is for the proud black man
Black is for the beautiful face
of a proud and beautiful race
Black is for the soil we need
so our nation we can feed
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
Green is for the seed of freedom
planted in our minds
Green is for the seed to grow
leave the rest behind
Green is for the fertile fields
seed the fertile minds within
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
Red, Black and Green
If you think about it
you know what I mean
