The short story, “The Space Traders” was written by Professor Derrick Bell.
It came to mind because a seeker found our post “George Clinton Tells Us What is Power”. They were looking for something about “George Clinton on melanin.” We did a search for those terms. The first thing that came up was Cosmic Slop, the Hudlin Brothers’ TV movie. An episode of Cosmic Slop was based on Dr. Bell’s story.
A first look at the IMDB page for Cosmic Slop brings awareness. It dawned on us that when the movie was first shown we had little awareness of melanin. We knew of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing and her book “The Isis Papers” but little more. Dr. Welsing was the first to inform us about melanin. Now some 21 years later the significance of this movie to melanin seems obvious.
The story “Space Traders” could properly be titled “Melanin Traders from Space.” In the Hudlin brother’s version, melanin is a plot device which determines who goes with the Space Traders and who does not. It is a melanin driven tale.
The Breitbart website went into a strange dimension when they reviewed The Space Traders. Apparently, former President Barack Obama spoke about the program at some point. That seemed to be the driver behind Breitbart reviewing the program for its readers.
Right off the bat they declare themselves in foreign territory. If Breitbart doesn’t understand George Clinton, how can they believe they to understand a TV program with the title “Cosmic Slop” and melanin as a plot device? Automatically that discredits their ability to objectively analyze the show.
Then they go from being unable to decipher the man who brought forth the concept of “Cosmic Slop” to being unable to deny how awful American society is, so they blame the Mainstream media (MSM to them) for that idea. How cunning.
After failing to blame the MSM for America being awful, they criticise the spaceships of the Space Traders. Would HBO allow such a low quality program to air as Breitbart seems to believe they watched? Hmm. Next, Breitbart blames Harvard Law for the shortcoming in the spaceships. How? Harvard Law didn’t produce the program. The Hudlin brothers and specifically Reginald Hudlin directed the episode of the trilogy and Dr. Bell wrote the original story.
From there Breitbart condemns the Ronald Reaganesque hologram used by the extraterrestrials. Doing so while ignoring the Space Traders’ request for “every child, woman and man with at least 2500 milligrams of melanin in their skin” does nothing to help their credibility. Breitbart never mentions the big topic and driver of the story. Furthermore, they ignore the fact Dr. Bell never mentions melanin in his original story either.
Breitbart’s “melanin denial” blinding them to the factor determining whether a person goes with the Space traders or stays on earth is one thing. Overlooking the Vice President of the USA asking, “what the hell is melanin” is a joy to behold. Are the melanin challenged people at Breitbart not aware melanin, the aromatic biopolymer and organic semiconductor that makes Black people black is worth over $395 a gram more than gold?
Next Breitbart states, “Americans hate black people” but puts forward the notion that Bell and critical race theorists teach that with no source at all. Also, refusing to repudiate such an idea means they are actually teaching their readers to think that way.
Next Breitbart claims “Republicans slobber at the thought of black genocide” in Bell’s world, and again, fail to refute their own claim.
But, enough about Breitbart’s review. It is such a surreal distortion of reality it needs a blog post of its own.
There has been a great deal of misinformation and disinformation surrounding melanin for many years now. One of the major hoaxes prevalent on the ‘interwebs’ is the idea Black people are being killed for their dermal melanin.
People who lack information or refuse to question that idea might want to consider the possibility melanin can be obtained from sources other than human beings. Black cats are a good place to start. The melanin sold by Sigma-Aldrich comes from the ink of Sepia Officinalis the common cuttlefish. Then of course there are Black Angus Cattle, fish scales, reptile skin, microorganisms and even mushrooms.
What I did not know when I first watched The Space Traders, but know now, is melanin, the aromatic biopolymer and organic semiconductor that makes Black people black is worth $350 a gram more than gold. That means melanin is worth 6 times the value of gold. It’s as if the very fabric of the universe has a message it wants us to receive.
The Space Traders had the technology to travel to this planet from another solar system or galaxy. Why trade? Would they have just gone away if the vote was against the trade or would they have kidnapped America’s Melanin people anyway? Why the melanin people in America? Melanin people are in Haiti, Jamaica and Brazil. And of course we’re all over Africa.
